Boy George takes a first class pop at Posh Spice
BOY George has claimed Victoria Beckham held up first class passengers to disembark from a flight.
The Culture Club singer vowed to avoid travelling with British Airways after claiming fashion designer and Spice Girls star Mrs Beckham, 48, was given preferential treatment.
In a now-deleted tweet, the 61-year-old wrote: ‘Nice touch for @britishairways to leave everyone in first class waiting for steps while Victoria Beckham’s car picks her up at the aircraft. Proper going to avoid flying BA for a while!’
Boy George had been in the US for the past couple of weeks touring with his band. The singer did not disclose information on where his flight landed, but he is set to perform at London’s Kenwood House tonight with Roy Hay and Mikey Craig.
Yesterday morning he acknowledged the post when he wrote: ‘I’m an impulse tweeter but I get over it faster than most.’
He went on to joke that Posh Spice Mrs Beckham is ‘innocent’. ‘Myself and @britishairways are back in love,’ he tweeted. ‘Now I know it costs 6,000 to get off the plane before everyone else. Also, my current remit is to be more friendly, human and have more patience. Lol! Wish me luck. I also forgot to say how lovely my flight was!’
In response to one user who shared the headline ‘Boy George vows to not fly with British Airways after flight with Victoria Beckham’, he joked: ‘This has to be a tee shirt @victoriabeckham Lol!’
The singer has been critical of Mrs Beckham in the past. In 2018 she told him to ‘f*** off’ after he asked for an autograph.
‘She’s a little bit more serious now isn’t she, but this was a fun moment in her life,’ he told Kyle and Jackie O’s KIIS 1065 radio show. ‘I nabbed her at a radio station and said will you write something funny on this for me... she wouldn’t write what I asked her to write, but she wrote, “To the bitch, f*** off”!’
In 2016 he banned one of his acts – the solo singer Vangelis – on The Voice TV talent show from performing a Spice Girls ballad during the knockout stage.
Tens of thousands of passengers have been feeling their own frustrations in recent months after being hit by flight cancellations and long queues at airports. This week BA’s corporate affairs and sustainability director Lisa Tremble came under fire for refusing to say whether cancellations were linked to the firm laying off 10,000 staff in the wake of Covid.
