Hanks goes Forrest Grump
Actor’s four-letter outburst after fans shove into his wife
‘We’re sorry about that, Tom’
HE’S known for his nice-guy roles – and he’s just as goodnatured off-screen.
But Tom Hanks seemed to step out of character after his wife was nearly knocked over by a mob of his fans asking for selfies – telling them to ‘back the f*** off’.
The Forrest Gump star and his wife Rita Wilson, both 65, were out at dinner in New York after a screening of Hanks’ latest film Elvis when a crowd began forming outside.
A video uploaded online shows the moment the fans swarmed towards them as they left the restaurant – with one getting too close and knocking into Miss Wilson, causing her to lose her footing. She wobbled and tried to regain her composure, holding up her hand and shouting: ‘Stop it.’
After rushing to see if his wife was OK, Hanks turned to the crowds and yelled in exasperation: ‘My wife? Back the f*** off. Knocking over my wife.’
The couple – who have been married for 34 years and have two sons Chet, 31, and Truman, 26 – then quickly dashed into a car.
One sheepish fan could be heard shouting as the couple drove off on Wednesday night: ‘Sorry about that, Tom.’
Earlier in the afternoon, Hanks was seen wearing a baggy T- shirt and baseball cap as he headed out on a solo stroll around Manhattan.
