THE LAKE, PRIME VIDEO
RIVIERA’S Julia Stiles doesn’t do much comedy, but she’s always great when she does — such as in her breakthrough role in 1999 romcom 10 Things I Hate About You. In this punchy new Canadian show, Stiles plays Maisy-May, one of those seemingly perfect people who have all their ducks in a row. Maisy’s ducks include the family cottage (on the lake of the title), which was left to her by her parents — much to the chagrin of her considerably less perfect younger stepbrother, Justin (Jordan Gavaris). Justin, who is gay, has just split up with his long-term partner, and is hoping to spend some time at the lake bonding with his teenage daughter (Madison Shamoun, pictured with Gavaris and Stiles), whom he had given up for adoption. So the discovery that the family’s hideaway has been left to Maisy-May comes as an unwelcome piece of news for Justin — and when his sense of sibling rivalry goes into overdrive, an increasingly deranged war for possession ensues over the
series’s eight episodes.
