■ THE BBC tries to stoke up outrage after the resignatio­n of Boris’s ethics chief Lord Geidt over the PM’s efforts to approve new tariffs on cheap Chinese steel to help British industry. The resignatio­n of someone we’d never heard of in a job we didn’t know existed is hardly a scandal.

■ GOOD luck to that overstuffe­d little haggis Nicola Sturgeon calling for a new referendum for Scottish independen­ce. Without British money Scotland would be bankrupt — but at least Sturgeon would become part of the union she idolises, the EU, where nearly seven per cent of people are unemployed.

■ THE PM wa s lambasted for introducin­g sanctions on Russia too late. Now Putin’s economy is tanking, there’s a shortfall of food in shops and 14 per cent of the population is living below the poverty level.
