Marc rocks up at Leeds
LEEDS UNITED have signed Bayern Munich midfielder Marc Roca on a four-year deal for an initial £10.4million.
The 25-year-old former Spain Under 21 international flew to England on Thursday night ahead of his medical at Thorp Arch yesterday. He will become Leeds’ third signing of the summer following the arrival of Red Bull Salzburg pair Brenden Aaronson for £21m and Rasmus Kristensen for £14m.
Leeds agreed a fee for Roca earlier this week with bonuses taking the overall price to £14.7m. It takes their total expenditure so far this summer to nearly £50m.
Roca was welcomed to the club at his medical by Leeds midfielder Adam Forshaw, who is in rehab after fracturing a kneecap.
Leeds are braced for a bid from Manchester City for their England midfielder Kalvin Phillips, who is changing agents, but Roca is not seen as a direct replacement. The club will move for another midfielder if Phillips departs and City hope to sign the England international for about £45m. Leeds want to add a striker too with Paris Saint-Germain’s Arnaud Kalimuendo, 20, among those discussed.
They remain in talks with Birmingham City for England Under 18 midfielder George Hall and want West Ham’s 18-year-old forward Sonny Perkins amid competition from Aston Villa and Tottenham.
