Flags won’t be flying on shamed Andrew’s birthday

- By Claire Duffin

THE list of royals who have flags flown from government buildings on their birthdays has been quietly slashed following Prince Andrew’s multi-million-pound settlement over allegations of sexual abuse.

The Union Flag will now be flown only on the Queen’s actual birthday in April, her official birthday in June and Prince Charles’s birthday in November.

The birthdays of Andrew, Princess Anne, Prince Edward, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, have been removed from the flag-flying guidance for government buildings. Other dates which have been removed include the late Duke of Edinburgh’s birthday on June 10, and the Queen and Philip’s wedding anniversary on November 20.

The slimmed-down list, drawn up by command of the Queen, appears to have been published on February 11 – four days before Andrew reached his out-of-court settlement with accuser Virginia Giuffre, and a month after the Queen stripped him of his military patronages.

The Duke of York denies all accusations against him.
