Blackpool axes Wild West lights

A ‘WILD West’ display is to be removed from Blackpool Illuminations following complaints of racism.

The 1960s panel, showing axe-wielding Native Americans dancing around a totem pole, will be ‘rested’ in 2023 then redesigned, says the town’s council.

Two UK-based members of the Chicksaw tribe had complained that it ‘ reinforces racial stereotypes’.

But one online critic condemned the move as ‘woke killjoys sucking every last bit of joy from life’.
