CHARISMATIC CORPORAL

The Charismatic Corporal said

To his brand new bride:

‘I am off to war tomorrow,’ And they both just sat and cried.

So off he went to foreign lands

To do the soldier’s task. Hoping deeply in his heart He’d not return within a cask.

He told her not to worry, Soon they’d carry on their lives,

That she must now take comfort

With other Army wives. He was away for two long years,

Her love for him did burn. She wanted him back home again,

For this she’d daily yearn. From her Charismatic Corporal

The letters were quite rare. All the things he had experienced,

He didn’t want to share. One night she heard a noise outside,

Then knocking on the door. She thought she recognised a voice,

But she could not be sure. She nervously opened the door, and

Her heart was beating fast. There stood her Charismatic Corporal,

His leg was in a cast.

For him his war was over now He’d come back to his bride. They cuddled, talked and kissed all night,

And both of them just cried. This all took place many years ago,

They’re both now 93.

The long and happy marriage they have, They thought would never be.
