Monkeying around
WhEn my husband served abroad in
the royal navy, we rented out our bungalow in Kent. The tenant agreed to our stipulation that we did not allow cats or dogs.
It was only when we moved back into our home after a year that we discovered they had a pet monkey. The property was wrecked, furniture was in shreds, walls were damaged and the smell was unimaginable.
We wanted to pursue the tenants for the damage, but were advised they could claim they did not have an income and any fine could be negligible. The next time my husband was posted overseas, we left the property empty.
