Landlord woes

PRIVATE landlords are treated with derision even though we provide good accommodation and are called out more frequently than any family GP to sort out tenants’ problems.

We have to organise checks on boilers, electricity, energy performance, Legionnaires’ disease and mould, creating work for pop-up businesses and extra revenue for the state.

We fill a niche in the market that councils can’t provide, so you’d think we’d receive a little gratitude.

Instead, if a tenant refuses to pay their rent or trashes our property, it costs us a fortune to pursue this legally as well as the loss of income and the time and cost to make the property habitable again.
