Sharon Stone: I went through heartbreak of nine miscarriages
SHARON Stone revealed yesterday that she suffered nine miscarriages before adopting her three sons.
The 64-year-old actress also expressed her sadness that there is ‘no forum’ for women to discuss their ‘profound loss’. She said they are instead made to feel like losing a baby is a ‘failure’.
Her comments were made on Instagram where Dancing With The Stars professional Peta Murgatroyd, 35, had shared her experience of losing a pregnancy with her husband Maks Chmerkovskiy, 42. In response, Miss Stone wrote: ‘We, as females, don’t have a forum to discuss the profundity of this loss. I lost nine children by miscarriage.’
‘It is no small thing, physically nor emotionally, yet we are made to feel it is something to bear alone and secretly with some kind of sense of failure.’
She has previously spoken about her miscarriages but had not shared how many she had suffered.
The actress, who starred in Basic Instinct, has three adopted sons, Roan, 22, Laird, 16, and Quinn, 15.
She went through the heartbreak of several miscarriages while married to journalist Phil Bronstein, 71, between 1998 and 2004. The American actress has a lupus-related rheumatoid factor which makes it difficult for her to carry a pregnancy to full-term. She spoke candidly last year about how she went through ‘36 hours of labour on my own’ after losing a baby when she was around five months pregnant.
In her post, Miss Stone praised other women, such as model Chrissy Teigen, 36, for speaking out on ‘issues of loss and heartache’ after a miscarriage.
