Man about the house

-

I MUST take issue with sarah Vine over her not infrequent put-downs of men’s domestic abilities, such as ‘invent a man who can use a washing machine’ (Mail, July 13).

In our house, as my wife works full-time and I have been retired for some years now, the domestic duties quite rightly fall to me.

The clothing my wife discards when taking an evening bath, she next finds washed, dried, ironed and hanging in her wardrobe.

I find no problem in undertaking the tasks of vacuuming, dusting, potwashing, changing bed linen, garden maintenance, recycling and putting the bins out. and, believe it or not, I am also competent in using the oven, hob and microwave.

I assume, rightly or wrongly, that sarah’s views on men’s domestic usefulness reflect her own experiences. But please, sarah, don’t tar us all with the same brush.

IAN KILLIP, Grimsargh, Lancs.
