Werner hints at Chelsea exit

- MIKE KEEGAN reports from Charlotte ON TOUR WITH CHELSEA

tIMO WErNEr has hinted his future may lie away from Chelsea. the German striker has failed to fulfil his potential following a £47.5million move from rB Leipzig in 2020 and the arrival of fellow forward raheem Sterling has done little to silence rumours that he is set to leave the Blues. Werner’s £270,000-a-week wages may be a stumbling block to any suitors. the 26-year-old scored the club’s first goal of the post-roman Abramovich era in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Club America but said he had not spoken to boss thomas tuchel about where he stands. Asked if clear-the-air talks were needed, Werner said: ‘It is hard to say. the most important thing is that I am happy. I am happy when

I play and score goals.’ Pushed on whether he could find that happiness at Chelsea, he replied: ‘I could be happy everywhere.’ Werner is unaware of why he has struggled for game time under tuchel. With November’s World Cup on the horizon he admitted he needs more minutes.

‘It is clear I want to play more and I should play more to first be in good shape for the World Cup and also to have a chance to play at the World Cup,’ he said.
