Daily Mail

A century on, I’m still a fan of the Mail’s Teddy Tail

- DENNIS HAYNES, Faringdon, Oxon.

I Am 100 and started reading the Daily mail 95 years ago. What did I read? The Adventures Of Teddy Tail, of course. I am still a member of the Teddy Tail League and recall the members’ secret sign. I wish you would bring him back.

PHILIP HAGUE, Eastbourne, E. Sussex. n TEDDY TAIL, about a mouse with a knot in his tail, was the first daily cartoon strip in a British newspaper and the first to use speech bubbles. It ran in the Mail from 1915 to 1962.

I Am 90 years of age and I remember my maternal grandfather telling me he bought the first issue of the Daily mail in 1896. Our family have taken it ever since.

In 1939, I honed my early reading skills by sitting along the arm of Grampy’s chair and reading the mail with him while he explained the finer points of the Battle of the River Plate.
