THE RAT RACE

The rotters, the plotters, The EU besotters

All scrabbling with

frenzied intent

To secure the key prize In oft-virtuous disguise Any nod to integrity spent. Now the media has won (Boris-bashing was fun Overlooking his merits

and gains)

Whilst the beady-eyed rats Prowl those richly

filled vats

‘For the good of the

country’ they claim. He stood out in the crowd — With ambitions unbowed Head and shoulders above

all the rest,

And in matters of State

Holding vigorous debate With 100 per cent verve

and zest.

The PM role is tough

Far less ‘smooth’ far

more ‘rough’

Where attention to

detail abounds,

He chaired meetings with ease But forgot to cross Ts Giving all his detractors

firm grounds.

Sir John M had his day — Mixing both work and play Now spouts high moral

values with ease

As his party’s keen saviour — Aims to still ‘curry’ favour So uprightly ignoring

past sleaze.

Lord M. ‘Hassletime’ preaches ‘Claw back Brexit’ beseeches ‘All the rabble were wrong in

their vote’, He proved such a

plot-hatcher

As he knifed Mrs Thatcher Now he seeks to sink

Brexiteers’ vote.

The rat-race has begun — His endeavours they shun Will they emulate all

he achieved?

Or will they all rue the day When they cast him away Leaving loyal

supporters bereaved? Was it worth it? One asks For such onerous tasks Faced with problems

unbounded each day? Let him still steer the boat While successor they vote Then the debt to his valour

they’ll pay.

Val Anne Lee, Alresford, Hampshire.
