Life sentence for farmer, 89, who killed wife

-

A RETIRED pig farmer shouted ‘No, no, no!’ yesterday as he was told he would die behind bars for killing his wife and dumping her body in a septic tank.

David Venables, 89, ‘got away with murder’ for nearly 40 years after killing Brenda, 48.

Her body had lain in a septic tank behind their farmhouse in Kempsey, Worcestershire, since May 1982 in what the judge branded a ‘disgusting and repulsive’ insult.

Venables then rekindled an on-off 15-year affair with his mother’s carer Lorraine Styles.

Venables, was jailed for life and ordered to serve a minimum of 18 years, would have to reach the age of 107 before he could even apply for parole.

He showed no emotion throughout Mrs Justice Tipples’s sentencing remarks at Worcester Crown Court yesterday. A jury last week convicted him of murder with a 10-2 majority guilty verdict.
