Pregnant mum forced to wait 7 hours for AA... in 40C heat

- By Liz Hull

A HEAVILY pregnant woman waited more than seven hours for a breakdown recovery van on the hottest day of the year after her car engine seized.

Laura Jenkins, who is 35 weeks’ pregnant, said her feet were swollen ‘like the Elephant Man’ by the time the AA engineer arrived in west Wales on Tuesday.

But it was another 26 hours before she, husband Justin and their nine-year-old daughter, Dacey-Faith, made it back to their home Newcastle upon Tyne because of a series of ‘c**k-ups’ by the recovery firm, which claimed it couldn’t find the family a hire car.

Mrs Jenkins, 38, said yesterday she had made a formal complaint to the AA, which has apologised to the couple and agreed to pay compensation.

‘It was absolutely shocking,’ she said. ‘It was about 40C [104F]. As we got into Newcastle, we decided to go straight to the Royal Victoria Infirmary as my feet were so swollen.’
