I want public to hear case says Bronson

-

ONE of Britain’s most violent prisoners, Charles Bronson, yesterday became the first to demand a public parole hearing.

His application was made on the day changes came in allowing victims, their families and the Press to attend case reviews. The Parole Board said it was considering his request.

Several cases prompted public outrage after serious criminals were granted parole without public scrutiny, including ‘Black Cab’ rapist John Worboys.

He was convicted in 2009 of attacking 12 women and was granted parole behind closed doors in 2018. But the decision was reversed after a campaign by his victims.

Bronson, 70, is one of the country’s longest-serving inmates and has been in and out of prison since the 1970s. After being returned to jail in 1988, he was sentenced to life after assaulting and kidnapping prison staff.
