Margot, the £10m Barbie
She’s top-earning actress on Hollywood rich list... but Top Gun Tom cruises into first place
SHE is playing the world’s bestselling doll of all time – Barbie.
And in doing so Margot Robbie has become Hollywood’s best- paid actress of 2022, raking in £10million.
But the Australian, 32, still has some way to go to catch the top-earning star – Tom Cruise, who is set to receive a staggering £80million for his Top Gun revival Maverick.
Hollywood’s gender gap remains stark with Miss Robbie among just five actresses on Variety’s list of the 26 biggest earners. Her Barbie co-star Ryan Gosling, 41, who plays Ken, is thought to be on the same pay package as her.
Cruise, 60, is in line for the monster payout thanks to a deal giving him a percentage of gross earnings from Maverick, which pulled in £1billion globally at the box office.
One studio boss told Variety: ‘ Most actors aren’t worth what you pay them, but Cruise and maybe [former The Rock wrestler] Dwayne Johnson justify their salaries.’ Will Smith, 53, who caused a storm when he slapped Oscars host Chris Rock, was reportedly paid £29million for upcoming film Emancipation.
The youngest star on the list is Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown, 18, who earned £8million for Netflix’s Enola Holmes 2. The highest-paid actor of all time is believed to be Bruce Willis, 67, with £96million for 1999 hit The Sixth Sense while the best-paid actress is thought to be Sandra Bullock, 57, with £59million for 2013’s Gravity.
