Why are Posh and Brooklyn’s wife ignoring each other on Instagram?

-

THERE was some surprise when bride Nicola Peltz chose not to wear a solitary item by her fashion designer mother- in- law Victoria Beckham over the whole of her three- day wedding celebration in April.

And now the fashion world is agog over a perceived froideur between the two women, being played out on social media.

Instagram experts point out that, post-wedding, Peltz rarely ‘likes’ any of David or Victoria Beckham’s posts — and the celebrity couple almost never like any of hers, either.

For instance, neither David nor Victoria liked Nicola’s post of the Tatler cover in which she was called ‘The new Mrs Beckham’. Neither tossed out a like for a picture of Peltz’s mother Claudia, which Nicola captioned: ‘Family is everything to me.’

Even more oddly, neither David nor Victoria liked a string of wedding pictures of their son and new daughter-in-law, taken from Vogue and posted on Nicola’s Instagram.

In a similar vein, Nicola didn’t like Victoria’s happy birthday wishes to daughter Harper this year. And neither she nor Brooklyn liked Victoria’s recent posts wishing David a happy wedding anniversary.

It was not always thus. Last summer, in the three months between the start of June and the end of August, Victoria liked 20 of Nicola’s posts, exclaiming on August 29: ‘Kisses! We love you!’

In that same period, Nicola liked 25 of Victoria’s posts — everything from her prospective mother- in- law’s fashion collection being featured in Vogue Korea to her eye pencils.

But since the nuptials, something seems to have changed.

In the three months after the April 9 wedding, Nicola liked only five posts out of 131 put up on Instagram by Victoria. And in that same period, Victoria liked only six out of 35 posted by Nicola.

A Beckham family source says: ‘People constantly speculate about relationships — we don’t really care as it’s just silly.’

Back in May, Nicola none too subtly distanced herself from her in-laws when she told Vogue magazine: ‘Their wedding was incredible, but the wedding we were most inspired by was Iman and David Bowie’s.’

I’m told: ‘There is a feeling that the Peltzes rather turn their noses up at the Beckhams . . . the way that they do things and their celebrity profile.

‘Meanwhile, the Peltz clan has really embraced Brooklyn. There is a feeling that Brooklyn is now all about the Peltz family and not the Beckhams.’

Brooklyn has renamed himself Peltz Beckham. And he is certainly being encouraged by his 80-year-old father-in-law, who built his fortune in food and catering, in his new career as a foodie and food influencer.

Nicola told Tatler in June that she loved listening to her husband take career advice from her father. ‘I watch him call my dad and say: “What do you think about this?” ’
