Green upgrader

-

A MAN I know bought a brand new electric car. Very expensive, he said. He then had to pay to have a charging point in his garage, although the car was far too big to fit in it.

When a crowd of friends had gathered, he regaled us with all the wonderful features his green-friendly car had. At the first opportune moment, I left them to it.

Three years on, the makers brought out a shiny new version of the car with even more bells and whistles. What choice did he have? It was too good an opportunity to miss. Of course he bought it, even though it was even more expensive.

Then he had to sell the previous car, so some poor chump was talked into buying it. In the not-too-distant future, that chump will have to fork out thousands for a new battery and pay to have the highly toxic old battery deep-buried, unless someone with a scrapyard makes an offer.

You earn your money, you decide what to spend it on. But a bit of advice to others: find an exit strategy for conversations like that.
