Why the long face, best man?
IT IS traditionally a role reserved for a best friend or brother. But when Paul Boyles married partner Kay Clark there was only one candidate for best man – the couple’s former racehorse King Erik.
The 17.2 hand stallion walked down the aisle carrying the rings in a pouch on his saddle to the theme tune of Black Beauty.
He even went on the honeymoon – an 11-day horse trekking break in Wales.
Lidl store manager Mr Boyles, 47, of Hetton le Hole, County Durham, had secretly arranged the whole thing – having told his bride, 48, that he didn’t have a best man.
‘The look on her face was of sheer horror when she saw Erik,’ he said.
