Schoolboy, 15, tortured to death by his mother and her lover
Couple recorded beatings on home’s CCTV... and now plan to marry behind bars
A SADISTIC mother and her steroid- abusing lover have been found guilty of torturing her 15-year-old son to death.
Sebastian Kalinowski was beaten repeatedly with a bed slat, whipped with an extension cable and stabbed with a needle by Agnieszka Kalinowska, 35, and her bodybuilder partner Andrzej Latoszewski, 38.
The ‘model pupil’ died after untreated rib fractures led to sepsis and organ failure, Leeds Crown Court was told.
Much of the abuse was captured on a CCTV system set up around the family home in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, to ‘monitor and control’ Sebastian.
Videos showed numerous incidents in which the boy was repeatedly punched, kicked and stamped on.
Kalinowska previously admitted child cruelty and Latoszewski, a martial arts fanatic, admitted manslaughter, but both had denied murder.
The killers are now engaged to be married after Latoszewski proposed to Kalinowska by letter while they were in prison before the trial. Their correspondence was read to jurors and in her reply to the proposal, Kalinowska told Latoszewski she would marry him ‘ anywhere… even in a tracksuit – I don’t need a wedding dress’.
She said their prison letters were a ‘magical’ distraction as she awaited justice for their horrific crimes.
Sebastian came to Britain from his native Poland, where he lived with his father, in October 2020, ten months before his death.
But life with his mother and her partner turned into a prolonged period of suffering.
The ‘ shy’ teenager, who attended secondary school in Huddersfield where he was described as a ‘model pupil’, was small and thin, and looked younger than his age.
Teachers were unaware of the horrors unfolding at home,
where he was viewed by his guardians as a ‘hindrance’.
Prosecutor Jason Pitter QC told the jury the abuse became ‘increasingly more severe and violent’. Sebastian was treated like a ‘gopher or lapdog’ and forced to call Latoszewski ‘Mr’ or ‘Sir’. Between beatings the teenager was forced to carry out ‘humiliating drills’ such as squats and press-ups.
In one 30-minute clip played to the jury Latoszewski was seen hitting the boy more than 100 times, pausing at one stage to wipe sweat from his face, while Kalinowska watched TV and ate toast. Another showed
Latoszewski whipping him with a cable before Kalinowska threw him to the ground.
Mr Pitter said attacks were ‘precipitated by things such as Sebastian dropping food on his bedroom floor or having gone to the toilet during the night’.
Three days before he died Latoszewski punched, kicked and throttled the teenager in a four-hour beating.
‘Sebastian frequently struggled to stand but was picked or held up in order that the assault could continue,’ said Mr Pitter.
The day before his death Sebastian was punched and kicked, and both his mother and her partner stabbed him with a needle during the brutal assault. Kalinowska tried to force a slipper into her son’s mouth. Footage from that day
showed Sebastian in pain and struggling to breathe.
On August 13 last year he was seen naked and unconscious on CCTV. The couple attempted CPR but did not call 999 for two-and-a-half hours.
Before paramedics arrived Latoszewski appeared to try and pour water into Sebastian’s mouth, possibly in an attempt to fabricate a drowning. Cameras were also taken down.
Sebastian was taken by ambulance to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A post-mortem examination found he had suffered 81 injuries and had 23 rib fractures during his final two weeks.
There was bruising all over his body. Some injuries were of the kind suffered by road traffic accident victims.
