The long alarm of the law...

-

RESIDENTS breathed a sigh of relief last night when an alarm in a former police station was finally turned off after ringing out for more than 50 hours.

Bosses at a nearby boutique hotel in Bakewell, Derbyshire, had to turn guests away because of the incessant noise which began at 11am on Saturday.

Business owners called police but were reportedly told there was only one key holder who would not be available until Monday. It was finally silenced shortly before 4pm yesterday.

Town councillor Mark Wakeman described the noise as ‘awful’, adding: ‘It’s just not good enough. They simply went in, turned it off and left. No apology.’

The police station – the last in the Peak District – was closed in 2015.
