Maitlis stalker faces jail again

-

A STALKER with a ‘ persistent and obsessive fixation’ on TV presenter Emily Maitlis was found guilty yesterday of attempting to breach a restraining order for the 20th time.

Edward Vines, who has been obsessed with Miss Maitlis for 30 years, wrote eight letters from his prison cell expressing his ‘unrequited’ love for her.

Vines, 52, who met former BBC Newsnight host Miss Maitlis, 51, at Cambridge University, was serving a three-year term after being convicted in 2020 for breaching a restraining order.

He said he knew prison staff would intercept the letters but a jury at Nottingham Crown Court took less than two hours to find him guilty.

Vines, who was told he can expect a ‘lengthy’ prison term, will remain in custody until sentencing on September 5.
