Cowboy game axed after single ‘racism’ complaint

- By Claire Duffin

A VINTAGE cowboys and Indians shooting game has been removed from a seaside pier – following a single complaint.

The ride features a horse which children can sit on while ‘shooting’ at cartoon images of Native Americans. Social worker Emily Crossing, 30, said she was shocked to see the ‘racist’ ride during a family trip.

She wrote to bosses of Grand Pier at Weston-super-Mare in Somerset demanding it was removed from the arcade. Emails appear to show bosses initially attempted to keep the game, saying it was a ‘legacy piece’ they inherited when taking over the pier and it was up to parents to police use. But when approached this week, a spokesman said the game has since been removed.

Other visitors criticised the decision. Ade Brown said: ‘I used to play that as a kid – there’s no harm in it. The world’s a pathetic place now where people get offended just wanting to moan about anything that they don’t agree with.’
