WHEN my granddaughter Bella was three years old, I took her to the local park. After enjoying herself on the swings and slide in the playground, she spotted a tall, vertical pole with widely spaced hand and footholds. ‘Can I go on that?’ she asked. I told her she could, but that I didn’t think her legs would be long enough.
Looking down, she told me: ‘Yes, they are, they go right down to the ground!’
