HOW long will arrogant politicians continue to support all-lane-running ‘smart’ motorways?

I am a retired Met Police traffic sergeant and am horrified that yet another motorist who had stopped in a live lane was killed and four passengers injured. This happened on a section of the M1 without a hard shoulder where apparently radar equipment to detect stranded vehicles had not been switched on.

I hope that whoever is selected as our new Prime Minister will have the courage to order National Highways to reinstate hard shoulders on all Britain’s motorways.
