Bats to birdies for Janet and Linda
FORmeR england cricket internationals Janet Tedstone and linda Burnley are still in the hunt to make it a hattrick of appearances in the grand finals of the Daily mail Foursomes. Tedstone, who played 12 Tests and 38 one-dayers for england, and Burnley, who was a wicketkeeper for yorkshire and also played in a one-day international, reached the finals in 2010 and 2019 for Willow Valley. Once again the duo are closing in on a place in October’s showdown at marriott st Pierre after beating Heather Benson and alison Graham of Huddersfield Fixby 4&2 to reach the last 64. ‘somehow we are able to dig in when it matters because the competition means so much,’ said Burnley.
‘it was a tough game, we had to grind it out. The score flattered us a bit. We’re just pleased to get it in the bag.’ The pair must get through two more rounds if they are to be one of the last 16 women’s and men’s pairs at the grand finale of the world’s largest amateur golf competition. Burnley added: ‘if we could make it to the finals again we would be absolutely over the moon, but we’ve got some work to do first.’
