Seems you’ve forgotten all about the race for No10, Priti!
SHE ruled herself out of the running to replace Boris Johnson.
But Priti Patel was still determined to enjoy the thrill of the chase yesterday – as she joined Defence Secretary Ben Wallace at Glorious Goodwood. The Home Secretary, 50, and Mr Wallace, 52, took time out from the tensions at Westminster amid the Tory leadership contest to cheer on horses at the Sussex course.
At one point, they laughed broadly and then looked stunned as the races unfolded.
They had both considered coming under starter’s orders to become prime minister, but did not take part in the contest.
Miss Patel decided against putting her name forward amid fears she would split the Tory Right if she pitted herself against others including now front-runner Liz Truss.
Mr Wallace, who at one point was among the favourites, said he wanted to focus on his job of ‘keeping this great country safe’ after discussions with his family. Neither minister has announced who they are backing in the race.
Miss Patel was joined at Goodwood by her 13year-old son Freddie. She wore an eye-catching headpiece which looked similar to a £1,5 5 design by London-based milliner Jane Taylor, whose clients include the Duchess of Cambridge. The Home Secretary also wore a herringbone coat in matching pale pink by upmarket outfitters Cordings, which is currently advertised on the firm’s website for £185.
