SHE was a Hollywood movie queen before building her £200million Goop wellness empire.

Now Gwyneth Paltrow has copied Egyptian queen Cleopatra by bathing in milk to plug a new beauty product.

The Iron Man star 49, wore a white bikini as she climbed into a bath filled with milk to promote the £86 Goop Glow Dark Spot Exfoliating Sleep Milk.

Cleopatra, who ruled as queen for 21 years to 30BC, is said to have bathed in sour donkey milk to exfoliate her skin and keep it smooth.

Lifestyle guru Miss Paltrow told fans on Instagram that she had been ‘designated guinea pig’ for a photoshoot for the 30ml product. She wrote: ‘The team made me take a milk bath and I didn’t hate it.’

She posted photos which showed her pulling a shocked expression as milk was poured over her. The new product claims to ‘target sun damage, dark spots, pores, dullness and uneven skin and texture too’. Mother-of-two Miss Paltrow said she uses the serum ‘every night before bed’ for ‘baby-soft, glowy, hydrated skin’.

She added: ‘I love to sleep. I love to exfoliate. And I love anything that does all the work while I’m in bed. It simplifies my whole routine by addressing multiple skin issues at once, and it feels so good.’

Previous controversial Goop products have included an £80 sex pillow and £22 ‘Vampire Repellent’ spray.

Cleopatra, who is thought to have killed herself by allowing an asp to bite her, has been played in films by Elizabeth Taylor and Amanda Barrie, who starred in 1964 comedy Carry On Cleo.
