Joni’s surprise for folk fans

Joni Mitchell has surprised her fans with her first fulllength concert in two decades.

Rhode island for a

13-tune set. it was her first visit to the US festival since 1969 and her first full show since late 2002.

Seated in an ornate gold chair and wearing a blue beret and sunglasses, Miss Mitchell, pictured, joined festival headliner Brandi Carlile and artists including Wynonna Judd, Allison Russell and Marcus Mumford. At one point she even played an electric guitar solo.

Miss Carlile told the audience it was a recreation of the ‘Joni Jam’ musical gatherings at Miss Mitchell’s Los Angeles home. The ensemble played favourites including Big Yellow Taxi and The Circle Game.
