Who needs an inquiry?
WITh the country facing a financial crisis, we are about to embark on a colossal waste of public money by launching a Covid public inquiry to examine Britain’s response and learn lessons for the future.
As with previous public inquiries, I expect it will state the obvious and achieve little we don’t know already. All it will do is bloat the coffers of the legal profession and nurture the compensation culture.
By the time it’s completed, we will have gone through half a dozen governments, the pandemic will be a distant memory and we will be in the throes of another crisis.
