Tax and spend
The country is standing at a critical juncture on taxation and spending.
Now is the time for a bold step if we wish to continue to run health and education services, develop an effective system of social care, be able to defend our territory and way of life, invest in cleaner forms of energy for heating, lighting and transportation, secure our gas, water and electricity infrastructure and recruit 20,000 police officers.
We need an analysis of how much it will cost to fund these essentials and a clear message as to what levels of taxation would be required for this.
For decades, politicians have engaged in obduracy, obfuscation, delay and promises of jam tomorrow while they rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic. It’s time for effective political leadership.
