TOP FLIGHT SET TO CUT BACK ON PARACHUTE PAYMENTS

-

PREMIER LEAGUE clubs are close to agreeing a ‘New Deal for Football’ to distribute money to the Football League. The 20 clubs met yesterday to discuss giving money to EFL teams based on their finishing position. Parachute payments would remain but be reduced from the current £44million. The two leagues are under pressure from the Government to agree a deal on money moving from the top flight to the lower leagues. The deal, which would include infrastructure grants for

Premier League teams to pay for EFL stadium upgrades, is subject to Government approval. Premier League clubs also voted unanimously yesterday to appoint Alison Brittain as their first female chair.
