Heart’s delight for Boris and Carrie...
CUPID looking down would surely approve.
For a heart-shaped orchard is one of the features of the country estate where Boris and Carrie Johnson are set to hold their wedding party this weekend.
Preparations for the lavish bash were well under way yesterday at billionaire Conservative donor Lord Bamford’s Daylesford House estate in the Cotswolds.
Pictures showed large white marquees being erected in the grounds of the 1,500-acre Gloucestershire estate. In addition to the orchard, the 18th- century mansion boasts an orangery and a secret garden with octagonal swimming pool.
Mr and Mrs Johnson married last year in front of only 30 guests because of the pandemic but this weekend’s event is set to be a more extravagant affair. The Johnsons had been due to celebrate their marriage at Chequers, the Prime Minister’s grace-and-favour country home in Buckinghamshire, but had to make other arrangements after his resignation.
Lord Bamford, 76, the chairman of the JCB digger company, is one of the Tory party’s most reliable donors, having given more than £14million since 2000, and also offered his businesses’ support during the Brexit campaign. Mr Johnson performed a general election stunt at JCB headquarters, smashing through a brick wall marked Brexit deadlock in a digger.
He also received £27,000 in luxury organic food and drink from Lady Bamford’s business, Dayles - f o rd Organic Farm, during the pandemic. The couple, pictured, have not confirmed details of their wedding party and No 10 said: ‘We do not comment on speculation regarding private or family matters which do not involve any ministerial declarations or taxpayer funds.’
