His and her chores

-

MEN sharing the housework (Letters)? When we married 54 years ago, we agreed I would do the inside jobs such as cooking and cleaning, while my husband Albert would do the outside chores.

He is a real handyman and does all the decorating, gardening, cleans the car and cooks on the BBQ. And he’s always been hands- on with our sons and grandsons.

J. THOMAS, Warrington, Cheshire. DURING ten years in the Royal Navy, I was taught to iron, but when I got married in 1966 I couldn’t cook.

My wife gave me a six-week cookery course so I learned some helpful titbits. Anything that grows in the ground, such as potatoes or carrots, is put into a saucepan of cold water and brought to the boil. For anything that grows above ground, such as runner beans and peas, you boil the water first and then add the veg.

When my wife died young, I took on all the housework.

R. J. CLARK, Cheltenham, Glos.
