Jodie proves just the ticket for Everyman

-

EVERYMAN said yesterday that demand for cinemas was ‘undiminished’ and moviegoers have flocked back to the big screen following the end of Covid lockdowns.

The upmarket cinema chain said sales in the first half of the year hit a record high of £40.7m, a 40pc jump from pre-Covid levels.

Everyman said profit also hit a record £7.5m, £900,000 ahead of pre-Covid highs.

The company’s shares rose 1.8pc, or 2p, to 111p as it celebrated a ‘busy six months’.

The chain, which has 37 cinemas in the UK, was boosted by strong performances across the board with blockbusters including Elvis and Maverick, and screenings of Jodie Comer in the West End play Prima Facie ( pictured).

It also said customers at the chain, which offers red wine and freshly made pizzas delivered to seats, were spending more each visit.

Everyman chief executive Alex Scrimgeour said the group hit record highs despite challenges including the soaring cost of living.

He added: ‘We remain confident that people’s enjoyment of cinema – and specifically Everyman – remains undiminished.’
