Foul! No day off if we win

-

THE nation will not be given a day off to celebrate if the Lionesses triumph in the Euros final.

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has joined calls for an extra bank holiday if England’s women’s team lift the trophy.

He said such a ‘truly historic achievement’ merited ‘a proper day of celebration, where clubs can open and promote access for women and girls’.

Tory MP Tracey Crouch, an exsports minister, supported the call and said the Lionesses should be treated the same way as male players.

But the idea was rejected by the Government, which said it would come at a ‘considerable’ cost to the economy.
