NEIGHBOURS: THE FINALE, 9PM, CH5

-

IT’S the end of an era. After 37 years on air, we bid an emotional farewell to the residents of Ramsay Street in the Melbourne suburb of Erinsborough. Less a soap, more a cultural phenomenon, the show enriched our teatime viewing, peaking at an incredible 21 million viewers in 1990. It also launched the careers of countless stars, including Margot Robbie, Guy Pearce and, of course, Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue (pictured), who played lovebirds Scott and Charlene. They’ll all be returning for tonight’s primetime finale, which centres on Toadie and Melanie’s wedding — and sees Terese and Paul confronting their unresolved feelings. Lots of other familiar Erinsborough faces from down the years will also be putting in an appearance, including Natalie Imbruglia, Holly Valance and Delta Goodrem — and even Anne Charleston, as the ghost of fan favourite Madge Bishop, returns for a last goodbye. After bidding an emotional farewell, you can soak up the soap’s legacy in Neighbours Made Me A Star (10.05pm), which pays tribute to our favourite characters and hears the stories of the cast and crew, including Stefan Dennis (Paul Robinson), Ryan Moloney (Toadie), Jackie Woodburne (Susan Kennedy) and Alan Fletcher (Karl Kennedy). Then, dance along to to Especially For You and more in Neighbours: All The Pop Hits (11.35pm).
