THIS glossy and compelling new eight-part thriller stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw (pictured) as Sophie, who has almost entirely lost her memory after an apparent suicide attempt six months previously, when she jumped from a ferry. Her nightmares are haunted by terrifying flashbacks, where she’s underwater, struggling to reach the surface, but is trapped by the huge boat. Now, Sophie is trying to piece her life back together — and it’s a life that would make most people green with envy. There’s the luxury apartment in San Francisco, the designer wardrobe and a circle of close friends. She’s married to James (Oliver Jackson-Cohen), seemingly the perfect husband; rich and handsome, he’s also patient and understanding as the couple slowly get to know each other again. But the question of why Sophie would attempt to take her own life continues to trouble her, and her amnesia only fuels her paranoia. She just can’t shake the nagging suspicion that there are dark secrets lurking beneath the shiny surface of her sophisticated world.

■ WELL, you can’t beat this one for timing. Miles Jupp returns with a new, second series of the comedy PARTY’S OVER (6.30PM, RADIO 4), about a Prime Minister who suddenly has to deal with life outside No 10 after election defeat. So, what’s he going to do now? In today’s episode, former PM Henry Tobin (Jupp, pictured), with his still loyal team, heads for the Commonwealth Games, hoping the opening ceremony will offer a chance for a comeback.
