Love my Neighbours
I’M NOT sure how I’m going to cope after the last ever episode of Neighbours is broadcast this evening. I might need support.
I’ve watched the show since it began and it’s the only soap I follow. Friends know not to contact me when it’s on.
A treasured possession is the autograph of the character Clive Gibbons.
In 2007, I was delighted to have the chance to visit the Neighbours set in Melbourne, which was arranged by a distant cousin who was the lighting director on the show.
It was at the weekend when there was no filming and I was amazed at how tiny the set was. In the house that is now David and Aaron’s, I wrote the note ‘Anth was here’ and put it under the fridge magnet.
I was given a well-thumbed, out- of- date script and a plastic fuchsia — the plants on the set were fake.
Thank you, Neighbours, for all the nonsense and escapism that I have enjoyed and appreciated since 1985. But like all good things, I guess it has to come to an end.
