UK couple found dead in French swimming pool

THE bodies of an unnamed British couple have been found floating in the swimming pool of their second home in the South of France.

Friends of the pair, who were in their 80s, made the macabre discovery at around 8pm on Saturday night in Mas de Villetelle, near Montpellier.

‘They were meant to be hosting a dinner party,’ said an investigating source. ‘The front door was locked, but their friends managed to gain entry, and were surprised to find the house empty. When they looked around further, they found both bodies floating in the pool.’

Emergency services personnel from nearby Gignac tried to revive the couple at the scene, but they were certified dead.

There was ‘no trace of violence’, said the investigating source.

‘It may have been that one of them drowned, and the same thing happened to the partner who was trying to carry out a rescue.’

An autopsy will determine the cause and time of death this week.
