Scoot out into the sunshine

-

THE SMELL of fish and chips, the sound of gently lapping waves, and a grain or two of sand in your sandwiches. Sounds lovely! When the sun makes an appearance, there’s nothing better than heading off on holiday or going down to the beach to dip your toes in the sea and enjoy a delicious ice cream on the promenade.

If you have limited mobility, these simple pleasures can feel like a thing of the past, but they don’t have to be. Many UK beaches have ramps for wheelchair access, and some even offer beach wheelchairs for hire, with special wheels to cope with sand and shallow water. Boscombe Pier Beach in Bournemouth, for example, has purposebuilt accessible beach huts with plenty of space and access to an electric scooter charging point, say mobility experts Middletons. And Summerleaze Beach in Cornwall has disabled access from the car park and rents out beach wheelchairs. Plus, there are accessible cafes along the seafront. Many caravan parks are suitable for wheelchair and scooter users — while a folding mobility scooter or electric wheelchair could make a coach holiday perfectly feasible. Some coaches are fitted with a ramp or hydraulic lift, so you can enjoy the stunning scenery without a care in the world. Even a cruise is possible with an accessible stateroom, but it’s advisable to book well in advance.

With a foldable mobility scooter you can do more than you might think!
