But why no bus parade or No10 love-in?

-

QUESTIONS were asked yesterday about why the Lionesses were not given a bus parade or a reception at Downing Street.

Fans were surprised that the team did not parade in London despite winning England’s first major trophy since 1966.

In 2003 the winning men’s Rugby World Cup team were granted a double-decker bus tour, as were the 2005 men’s team who won the Ashes.

A source close to yesterday’s Euros celebrations said Trafalgar Square was used as it had been a fan zone for the semifinal and final, so was ready to host revellers at short notice.

However it was claimed a bus parade would have cost more than £1million, and was ‘not part of the discussions’ if the men’s team had won last year.

Unlike male rugby union and cricket teams, who were invited to Downing Street in 2003 and 2019, the team will not be honoured with a visit this week.

Aides yesterday explained that the PM was at the funeral of peace process architect Lord Trimble yesterday and will be on holiday from tomorrow.
