Birthday derailed

-

I AM so angry that yet again rail workers are intending to strike — this time on August 18 and 20. have union officials no regard for the ordinary folk who endured the lockdowns and now are able to travel again?

My husband and I have booked a much-needed trip to London from August 16 to 18, including afternoon tea at The Ritz to celebrate my birthday. We have booked and paid for our hotel, trains and concert

tickets, but it looks as if we will have to cancel the trip and lose our money.

I hope that RMT general secretary Mick Lynch can sleep at night. I certainly can’t for worrying about how we’re going to sort this out.

irene scanLan, Burton upon Trent, staffs. IN THE wave of industrial action, one term often used in the 1970s is missing today: ‘Our members have had their differentials squeezed.’

Was this an existential threat or an acute condition, with treatment on the NHS?

Perhaps there is cause for rejoicing that squeezed differentials are a thing of the past. I hope we are never again blighted with this condition.
