Glib Gary Lineker

-

The magnificent victory by the Lionesses was summed up by Gary Lineker as: ‘Football is a simple game. 22 women chase a ball for 90 minutes and, at the end, england actually win. Congratulations’ (Mail).

It was a wry nod to his own joke, but when he is paid £1.35 million a year out of our licence fees to witter on about men chasing a ball, should he be so glib?

Through their dedication and commitment, the Lionesses have given the country a long-awaited success to celebrate. If Mr Lineker can’t praise talent, teamwork and national pride in a straightforward way, then he should keep his comments to himself.

G. HAYWOOD, Bodmin, Cornwall. GARY LINeKeR states that the game of football is simple, so why does the BBC pay him a fortune to make it sound complicated?
