Town centre crisis
I DO hope the new prime minister will act urgently to stop the sad decline of our town centres.
The extortionate cost of business rates has forced many stores, shops and long-standing family businesses to cease trading.
Once upon a time, going into town was a pleasant experience. We were spoilt for choice with department stores and fashionable boutiques. Shop assistants were polite, helpful and friendly. After a good day’s shopping, you could socialise in a cafe or restaurant with friends.
The Government needs to encourage shoppers back into town centres. We can’t afford to lose them.
