MIRACLE MAN MYLES IS A HOMETOWN HERO
MYLES HESSON made history in his own backyard as England won a first Commonwealth basketball gold.
The inaugural 3x3 tournament was held at Smithfield in Birmingham’s city centre, where Hesson used to go shopping with his grandma as a child. But he made new memories at the old market site last night as he dramatically dunked Australia with a matchwinning two-pointer in overtime.
The Aussies forced extra time after levelling at 15-15 with just 12 seconds on the clock. In overtime, the first team to score two wins it, and after Australia got their noses in front, Hesson hit a two — the equivalent of a three-pointer in 5x5 basketball — from the corner to seal a 17-16 win.
England women’s team lost in the last second to Canada, 14-13. And England’s men and women both claimed bronze in the 3x3 wheelchair tournaments.
