Asbestos could delay Giggs trial
THE trial of Ryan Giggs could be delayed again — after an asbestos scare at Manchester Crown Court. The Manchester United star, 48, is due on Monday to face allegations of assaulting his ex-partner, causing her actual bodily harm, and the common assault of her younger sister — accusations he denies. The case was originally due to be heard in January but a lack of available courtrooms at the venue saw it pushed back seven months. Last Friday, a potential asbestos scare was discovered in a basement of the court, which was built in the 1960s. It has now been closed for a fortnight and will only be re-opened when it has been declared safe. Some urgent cases have been transferred to the city’s other crown court at Minshull Street, with others switched to Bolton. Giggs’s case has been listed for a ‘mention’ at Minshull Street tomorrow. It may be put back, or moved to another court.
